The Renmark Paringa Community Museum, established in 1975, is a volunteer-run organisation dedicated to preserving and showcasing the rich history of the local district. Set on 2.5 hectares by the river, the museum features an extensive collection including vintage engines, agricultural machinery, historic displays and community exhibits.

Volunteers play a vital role in maintaining the museum, contributing to ongoing projects, and helping bring local history to life in a welcoming and inclusive environment.

What roles are available?

There are a wide range of volunteer opportunities available, with roles suited to different interests and skill levels - no experience needed, just a willingness to have a go.

With several recently donated items, there are exciting new restoration projects underway, including a train carriage planned as a centrepiece for the Paringa Bridge 100th anniversary open day, and two historic paddle wheels from a Liba Liba houseboat.

Current opportunities include:

  • Assisting with restoration projects, including newly donated items such as the train carriage and paddle wheels
  • Grounds and garden maintenance, including expanding the Fruit Salad Block
  • Painting to refresh and maintain exhibits
  • Providing guided tours to visitors
  • Supporting general day-to-day museum operations

The museum is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10am–3pm, and volunteers can contribute as much or as little time as they’re comfortable with, with tasks matched to their interests.

How to get involved?

New volunteers are supported by an experienced team with a wide range of skills, providing guidance and the opportunity to learn new trades.

Those interested are encouraged to visit the museum in person to explore the space, discuss their interests, and see how they can get involved in preserving the region’s history.
