Olivewood is a not-for-profit charity dedicated to preserving and sharing the history of the Chaffey Brothers and the Renmark district. Operated entirely by volunteers, the museum welcomes visitors from across Australia and around the world, offering a unique historical experience within a beautifully maintained heritage property.
Volunteers are essential to maintaining the site, supporting visitors, and keeping this important local history alive.
What roles are available?
Olivewood is seeking friendly and reliable volunteers to support museum operations, particularly in reception and general property upkeep. Roles are flexible and can be tailored to suit individual interests, with training provided.
Volunteer roles include:
- Reception & visitor services:
- Opening and closing the museum (rostered Thursday to Monday, 10am–4pm)
- Welcome visitors, and provide a general introduction to the site’s history. Handle entry payments (cash and EFTPOS), respond to phone enquiries, assist visitors with questions, and support souvenir sales.
- General maintenance & support:
- Maintain the presentation of the museum by cleaning indoor areas and displays, assisting with basic grounds upkeep and gardening, and helping with minor repairs and equipment as needed.
- Other support roles:
- Social media updates (e.g. Facebook posts)
- General assistance based on interests and skills
Time commitment
- Reception roles operate on a flexible roster from Thursday to Monday, 10am-4pm
- Volunteers can choose hours that suit their availability
- Opportunities for both regular and occasional involvement
How to get involved?
You can get involved by contacting Olivewood during opening hours or dropping in to have a chat with the team.
New volunteers are supported with training and supervision until they feel confident in their role, with the opportunity to work independently once ready. A Police Check and Working with Children Check are required.
