About

Meals on Wheels provides freshly cooked, three-course meals to clients five days a week, supporting older and vulnerable community members to remain independent in their own homes.

Volunteers are central to this service, helping prepare meals, deliver them to homes, and provide important social connection and wellbeing checks for clients.

What roles are available?

Meals on Wheels is seeking friendly and reliable volunteers across kitchen, delivery and administration roles. No prior experience is required - just a positive attitude and willingness to help, with full training and support provided.

Volunteer roles include:

  • Kitchen support:
    • Food preparation and cooking
    • Vegetable preparation and plating meals
    • Dishwashing and cleaning
    • Assisting with daily meal service (soup, main meals and dessert)
  • Meal delivery:
    • Delivering meals to clients’ homes (in pairs)
    • Providing a friendly face and brief wellbeing check
    • Supporting four local delivery routes
  • Administration support:
    • Answering phones and taking messages
    • Data entry and record keeping
    • General office and coordination tasks

Time commitment

  • Kitchen: 7:00am – 11:00am (Monday to Friday)
  • Delivery: 11:00am – approx. 12:30pm (Monday to Friday)
  • Administration: Flexible, mostly mornings

Volunteers can choose how often they participate, whether weekly, fortnightly, or as a relief volunteer.

How to get involved?

You can get involved by visiting the kitchen at 160 18th Street, Renmark and having a chat with the Branch Supervisor or Volunteer Coordinator, calling the team to express your interest, or completing an application online.

New volunteers are supported through a buddy system and on-the-job training, including food safety and workplace health and safety, so you’ll feel confident in your role.

A police check is required, which is arranged and paid for by Meals on Wheels.

You’ll be joining a welcoming team where you can give back to the community, build connections, and make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
