Accessibility a top priority for Paringa town project

16 May 2024

The upcoming Paringa Town Centre Revitalisation project is poised to transform the town centre into an accessible hub, catering to the diverse needs of both the local community and visitors.

In a number of consultation periods, community feedback played a pivotal role, with an overwhelming demand for enhanced accessibility features and inclusive amenities.

Responding to the community's call for inclusivity, the project team has incorporated a basket swing and other disability-friendly equipment into the designs.

This inclusion reflects the project's commitment to ensuring that all individuals, regardless of ability, can fully participate in and enjoy the town centre's amenities.

Previous consultation periods have highlighted the importance of accessibility, soft-fall flooring, pedestrian-friendly elements, and safety considerations such as fencing and increased shade and seating.

Building upon this feedback, the project will place a significant emphasis on creating a safe and accessible environment for pedestrians, wheelchair users, mobility scooter users, and families with prams.

This will involve the installation of soft-fall and accessible pathways throughout the nature play area, ensuring that everyone can navigate the space comfortably and safely.

Furthermore, the project will see upgrades to nearby toilets, with improved accessibility features such as suitable paths, ramps, and signage, establishing seamless connectivity to the town centre for all individuals.

The strong community feedback has been instrumental in shaping the project's direction, and Council is committed to incorporating these suggestions to create a town centre that the community can take pride in.

With its enhanced accessibility features and inclusive amenities, the revitalised town centre is expected to not only serve as a focal point for locals but also attract travellers and visitors to the region, fostering a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere.

With the project set to commence in the coming weeks, anticipation is high for the positive impact it will have on the Paringa township and its surrounding community.
