Background
Renmark Paringa Council is developing a Stormwater Management Plan for the township of Renmark and the Calperum area.
This project, jointly funded by the Stormwater Management Authority and Council, aims to deliver a comprehensive and coordinated approach to managing and improving stormwater across these key parts of the district.
The primary purpose of the plan is to identify areas vulnerable to flooding—particularly those impacted by intense rainfall, overland flow, or low-lying locations where water collects and causes inundation.
The key objectives of the Stormwater Management Plan are to:
• Identify and address stormwater management issues, risks, and opportunities within the catchment
• Define the roles and responsibilities of all stakeholders, including local and state government agencies
• Establish clear objectives to protect and enhance the economic, environmental, social, and cultural values of the catchment, with a focus on stormwater quality, water security, and flood hazard
• Identify and prioritise investments and initiatives that will effectively address these objectives
• Develop an implementation plan for the prioritised improvements and initiatives
• Establish a framework for ongoing monitoring, evaluation, and review
To support the development of the plan, Council has engaged a specialist surface water engineer who will focus on addressing known areas of localised flooding in Renmark and Calperum.
Opportunities for community feedback will be provided throughout the project and promoted through Council’s communication channels as they become available.
