The capital renewal and upgrade of the Renmark Wastewater Treatment Plant will provide a significantly improved asset that will achieve greater compliance with Renmark Paringa Council’s obligations to ensure water quality in accordance with SA Health and EPA regulations.

This project will also accommodate for growth within Renmark by increasing the serviceability of the assets onsite and vastly improving the treatment process.

The principal contractor, Guidera O'Connor, has mobilised to site, with the existing assets onsite being renewed as part of the greater upgrades scheduled to take place.

This project has evolved over the past few years through the optioneering and detailed design phases.

The majority of works will be completed by the end of 2024 with the commissioning to commence in early 2025.

The asset renewal outcomes for the Renmark Wastewater Treatment Plant include:

  • Provide a long term solution that will enable treatment of the predicted Renmark CWMS wastewater flows to meet municipal reuse water quality requirements as required by SA Health.
  • Provide a 50% increase in the capacity of the plant (current capacity - 800KL per day to design capacity - 1200KL per day).
  • Reuse and refurbish the existing infrastructure where possible, in particular the concrete tank.
  • Refurbishment works to the bioreactor.
  • Supply and install new membrane filters and associated infrastructure
  • Supporting equipment to enable the cleaning of the membranes
  • Supply and install of a new back pulse tank
  • Provision of programming and controls interface to enable management of the WWTP associated with the upgrades
  • Provision of in depth commissioning and testing to train Council operators in the management of the WWTP post upgrades
  • Construction of all structures, pipework supports, pumps and chemical dosing systems to support the upgrades.
