Council considers expert advice for housing development

4 December 2024

Renmark Paringa Council will consider “expert hydrologic advice” for the Jane Eliza Development project.

Renmark Paringa Council Mayor Peter Hunter said considerable work has been done to progress towards the project coming to fruition.

“We are leaving no stone unturned to understand the flood modelling and hydrology impacts of this project,” he said.

“This project has a lot of confidential aspects to it, but council has been doing its due diligence to ensure this development is the best way forward for our community.

“We understand there may be reservations from the community, however we are on the cusp of having expert hydrologic advice to share with our community.

“We have listened to expert advice in the past regarding flood modelling and flows and will continue to listen to those who are best positioned to give us advice on this development.”

The Jane Eliza development will support Renmark’s position as one of the major houseboat destinations in South Australia and further strengthen the lifestyle appeal of Renmark and the broader Riverland region.

It is designed to accommodate approximately 100 houseboats and 30 small recreational craft moorings.

“The houseboat industry is crying out for properly constructed moorings, better facilities and more growth opportunities,” Mr Hunter said.

“We strongly believe this development will be a major driver of the houseboat industry bringing significant economic benefits to our region.

“This development is also strongly supported by the South Australian Government.

“Although the project has not commenced it has already attracted significant investment interest from outside of South Australia.”

The developer of the project will be required to undertake a community engagement charter as part of the code amendment process.
