The Alan Coulter Recreation Centre - owned by Renmark Paringa Council and managed by Belgravia Leisure - is an important community facility for Renmark Paringa residents.
Located just minutes from the town centre, the Centre plays a key role in supporting health, wellbeing and connection - priorities highlighted in the Renmark Paringa Council Community Plan 2024–34.
It offers:
- Two versatile indoor courts for basketball, netball, volleyball, badminton and indoor soccer
- Seasonal sporting competitions
- An indoor heated pool
- Group fitness classes and a swim school
- Personal training and 24-hour gym memberships
By providing opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to stay active, learn new skills and connect with others, the Alan Coulter Recreation Centre helps strengthen the Renmark Paringa community.
The facility currently requires a number of upgrades and remediations, which Council has planned for in its long term financial planning and its Infrastructure and Asset Management Plan.
The current and upcoming projects can be viewed below.
Indoor Pool Plant Room Renewal
The upcoming works will involve the replacement of the indoor pool’s filtration and plant room equipment, which has reached the end of its serviceable life. This critical upgrade is essential to maintain the high standard of water quality and safety expected by our community.
Key components of the project include:
- Installation of new plant room infrastructure to replace aging systems that are no longer performing efficiently.
- Upgraded pumping and filtration systems designed to meet modern standards for aquatic facilities.
- Improved system accessibility to ensure the facility is easier to maintain and can support a broader range of users, including those with access needs.
- Enhanced energy efficiency and reliability, supporting Council’s sustainability objectives and reducing long-term operational costs.
Current Status
The tender for the works is currently out to market, inviting qualified contractors to submit proposals for the delivery of this upgrade. Once a contractor is appointed, construction timelines and community impact details will be communicated to ensure minimal disruption to centre users.
Community Benefits
This investment will help extend the lifespan of the facility, improve user experience, and ensure compliance with current health and safety standards. Most importantly, it will support the Alan Coulter Recreation Centre’s continued role as a vital hub for health, fitness, and community wellbeing in the Renmark Paringa region.
Fitness Equipment
As part of its ongoing efforts to support the wellbeing of our community, Council has approved a capital expenditure of $57,955 (excluding GST) to replace and upgrade essential fitness equipment. The funding for this upgrade will be provided through Council borrowings and reserves.
The focus of this project is to enhance the quality and accessibility of the fitness equipment available to ACRC users, ensuring it meets modern safety standards and provides a better experience for all.
Key Features of the Upgrade
- Improved safety and reliability of all fitness equipment, reducing the risk of injury and increasing the longevity of machines.
- Enhanced user experience and satisfaction with state-of-the-art equipment that caters to a wide range of fitness levels.
- Greater accessibility, with disability-friendly options that ensure inclusivity for all members of the community.
- Promotion of healthier lifestyles within the community, supporting physical and mental health through improved fitness resources.
Council’s Commitment to Wellbeing
This investment is part of Renmark Paringa Council’s broader commitment to promoting community wellbeing and ensuring that public facilities remain safe, inclusive, and up-to-date. The upgrade not only provides a more enjoyable fitness experience but also plays a pivotal role in encouraging healthier lifestyles for all members of the community, regardless of ability.
Roof Replacement
Renmark Paringa Council has endorsed urgent repairs to the roof over Court 2 at the Alan Coulter Recreation Centre (ACRC) to prevent further damage to both the roof structure and the recently upgraded flooring. This essential work will help maintain the facility’s functionality and protect key assets for the community.
Background
Council has been aware of ongoing leaks in the roof over Court 2, with multiple attempts to repair the issue in the past. The leaks have been reported by Belgravia and the sporting groups that use the facility regularly. In addition to the roof leaks, damage is now starting to appear on the Court 2 flooring, which is just six years old. The flooring was upgraded by Council after the previous surface was deemed unsuitable, making it crucial to address the roof issue to avoid further damage and protect this investment.
A structural assessment was conducted as part of the building’s internal review, which confirmed the cause of the leaks. The report pinpointed a roof joint in Catchments B & C as the source of the water ingress.
Approved Solution: Resheeting the Roof
To resolve the issue, Council has approved the resheeting of the roof over the affected areas (approximately 975sqm) of Court 2. This solution will effectively eliminate the leaks and reset the useful life of the roof in this section.
- Estimated Cost: $143,000
- Benefits: The resheeting will prevent further water ingress and safeguard the court flooring from future rainfall, thus protecting the near-new flooring installed in recent years. If the roof issue had not been addressed, remedial action on the flooring would have been necessary, with costs similar to the $168,000 spent on flooring restoration in 2019.
Urgency and Impact
Although roof repairs were originally planned for 2026/27 as part of broader internal building works, the current roof condition and impact on sporting groups prompted Council to prioritise this project. Acting now will prevent further damage to both the roof and the flooring, ensuring the facility remains functional and available to local sports teams and the broader community.
Engagement with Sporting Clubs and User Groups
Council will inform sporting clubs and user groups to minimise disruption during the roof repairs. Council is committed to keeping all stakeholders well-informed and involved throughout the project.
Centre Upgrades
Structural Works Upgrade
The Alan Coulter Recreation Centre is set to undergo essential structural works in a section of the facility that was recently closed due to safety and maintenance concerns.
These works are being guided by community feedback, ensuring that the upgrades are not only practical and cost-effective but also meet the current and future needs of local users.
The planned improvements aim to deliver a fit-for-purpose solution that supports the ongoing health, wellbeing, and recreational goals of the broader community.
Council is committed to progressing this project and will actively seek external funding opportunities to help support and deliver the upcoming works in a timely and efficient manner.
